Interfaith celebration at Berkeley sukkah

To celebrate the fact that the High Holy Days fall at the same time as Ramadan and the Feast of St. Francis this year, Congregation Netivot Shalom and the Aquarian Minyan, both of Berkeley, are hosting an interfaith gathering in their sukkah at Wildcat View Campsite, Tilden Park, at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23.

The theme is "My house shall be a house of prayer for all people," featuring prayer, poetry and music from various faiths, and a kosher vegetarian potluck dinner.

BRJCC co-hosting Katrina benefit

The Berkeley Richmond Jewish Community Center is teaming up with Black Oak Books and the Institute for the Study of Natural and Cultural Resources to host a benefit for Oxfam/America Katrina Relief Fund at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the BRJCC, 1414 Walnut St., Berkeley.

The benefit will feature Cajun and Creole music and readings by Bay Area writers, including Josh Kornbluth, Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman.
