Local congregations aid hurricane relief effort

As part of the Reform movement's ongoing hurricane relief effort, congregations across the country have taken part in the Jacob's Ladder program established by the Union for Reform Judaism.

Locally, led by the URJ regional director, Rabbi Michael Berk, volunteers and staff members from many Reform congregations joined together to help Gulf Coast communities.

A 53-foot truck filled with relief supplies left the Bay Area on Sept. 28, arriving at the URJ Henry S. Jacobs Camp in Utica, Miss., on Oct. 2 carrying goods from Bay Area synagogues.

Participating congregations include Congregation Emanu-El, Congregation Sherith Israel, Congregation Beth Am, Peninsula Temple Sholom, Temple Sinai, Temple Isaiah, Congregation Rodef Sholom and Congregation Beth Emek.
