Jewish girls wanted for clinical study on diet and soy
The Fremont-based Northern California Cancer Center is seeking girls ages 10 to 13 to participate in a study about soy products in the diet.
The girls will be asked to participate in three face-to-face interviews over a two-year period, give saliva and urine samples, and answer questions each month by phone or mail. The study is funded by the National Institutes of Health.
The study looks at the consumption of soy as a preventative for breast cancer.
Because some in the Orthodox community consume soy products as substitution for non-kosher sources of protein, girls from that population would make good candidates for the study, a NCCC spokesperson indicated.
For information, call the NCCC at (800) 541-4757 or online at www.grlsstudy.org.
