The Jewish Community Federation of the Greater East Bay recently installed a photo exhibit now on display at the federation’s Oakland headquarters.
“Twenty Images From Liberating The Ghosts: Photographs and Text from the March of the Living” features a series of evocative black-and-white photos by South African-born photographer Raphael Shevelev.
The images show young Jews from around the world touring various Nazi death camps in Poland while on the March of the Living.
Shevelev’s book “Liberating the Ghosts,” from which these images were taken, was named a Best Book for Young Adults by the American Library Association and the New York Public Library.
