Melissa Ann Segal, daughter of Joyce and Ivan Segal of Pittsburgh, Penn., and Seth Stewart Edlavitch, son of Sherry Smith of Walnut Creek and Stanley Edlavitch of Bethesda, Md., have announced their engagement.

The bride-to-be is a fourth-grade teacher in Potomac, Md. She received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Indiana University and a master's degree in education from Duquesne University. She is the sister of Jodi Segal Sherber of Baltimore.

Her fiance is a consultant on-site at the U.S. National Library of Medicine in Bethesda. He received dual master's degrees in public health and administration from the University of Washington, Seattle. He is the brother of Adam Edlavitch of Seattle. He is the grandson of Helen Siegel of Walnut Creek.

The couple met at an event for Jewish volunteers. A July wedding is planned in Pittsburgh followed by a honeymoon in Greece.
