Rabbi Edward Harwitz has resigned as head of school of the Jewish Community High School of the Bay effective immediately. Harwitz, who was named head of school in March 2002, said he resigned for personal reasons.

Through the end of the school year, three senior administrators will run the school; they will be overseen by the board of governors. A national search for Harwitz's replacement in now under way.

Said Murray Zucker, president of the JCHS board, "Rabbi Harwitz has been a dedicated champion of Jewish education in the Bay Area, and specifically a driving force behind the ongoing growth and development of JCHS and our students. Rabbi Harwitz brought great vision and spirit to our community. We wish him the best as he moves on to new endeavors."

This June, the high school will see its first crop of graduating seniors accept their diplomas. Current enrollment stands at 150 students.
