Voice for Israel protests film

Members of San Francisco Voice for Israel handed out fliers at a showing of "Peace, Propaganda and the Promised Land" at the First United Methodist Church in San Rafael on Thursday, Aug. 19.

The movie, which S.F. Voice for Israel considers anti-Israel, was sponsored by the Marin Peace and Justice Coalition, and was also shown at a film festival in Mill Valley recently.

"There were some rather animated discussions between some of us and some of the Peace and Justice people," said Michael Harris of San Rafael, a member of S.F. Voice for Israel.

Jews and Arabs to gather for exchange

Aptos will host the first Sulha gathering in the United States between Arabs and Jews on Monday, Sept. 6.

Sulhas, gatherings that allow Arabs and Jews to connect over the sharing of food, music, rituals and culture, have taken place for the past four years in northern Israel. The events, which last several days, offer people from different sides of the conflict a chance to hear and understand the other.

The local Sulha, a one-day event, will attempt to do the same, and will begin at 9 a.m. at Inner Light Ministries, 5630 Soquel Dr., Aptos. Information: metasulha.org.
