Children of ‘Oasis of Peace’ to speak in Bay Area

Follow j. on   and

Two young women who grew up at Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam, the only Jewish and Arab village in Israel, will speak in the Bay Area next week.

Laila Najjar, 20, an Israeli Arab, and Adi Frish, an Israeli Jew, were among the first children born in the bilingual, bicultural village, which is named "Oasis of Peace" in English. The village was established in 1978 as a place for Jews and Palestinians to live, work and raise their children together.

Najjar and Frish will be appearing at a brown bag lunch at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, at the offices of the New Israel Fund, 785 Market St., 14th floor, S.F. For reservations, call (818) 325-8884.

They will also appear 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at Congregation Kol Shofar, 215 Blackfield Drive, Tiburon.

For other venues, please go to the Web site, oasisofpeace.org.
