NEW YORK (JTA) -- A pro-Palestinian group is moving a controversial national conference to Ohio State from Rutgers University.
The Palestine Solidarity Movement said it was moving the Oct. 10-12 conference in a split with the New Jersey Solidarity Movement, which was sponsoring the conference. The reason, ISM member Fatima Ayub said, was that the local chapter "has not been doing the most comprehensive and responsible job."
Officials of the New Jersey chapter of the Anti-Defamation League and Rutgers Hillel officials said it appeared the local, more radical group will stage its own anti-Israel event in New Jersey.
MIT student ordered to remove Israel flag
NEW YORK (JTA) -- An MIT student was told to remove an Israeli flag from his dorm window because it was deemed a hazard.
University administrators last month told Jonathan Goler that hanging the flag "outside a window, in a 'public space,' violates MIT housing rules and regulations," according to MIT's student newspaper, The Tech.
Goler, who has refused to take down the flag, said he initially was told to remove it because a fellow resident found it offensive, the paper reported.
Jewish pro-gun group pushing Supreme Court
WASHINGTON (JTA) -- A Jewish pro-gun group is among those calling on the Supreme Court to hear a case on assault weapons.
Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership joined the Pink Pistols, a gay and lesbian gun group, in challenging California's assault-weapons ban.
The groups, along with the National Rifle Association, want the Supreme Court to hear an appeal filed this summer by a group of rugby players challenging the California law, which was upheld by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
