Bulletin nets four awards in journalistic competition

Greenberg accounted for half of the Bulletin's haul at the American Jewish Press Association's Rockower Awards this year. The paper also took home third place in overall graphic design among larger Jewish newspapers, and won second place in the serial article category.

Greenberg won first prize for two Bulletin cartoons. In one, identical drawings of livid suicide bombers and terrorists are illustrated with the captions "The West Bank as Yasser Arafat loses control" and "The West Bank as Yasser Arafat reasserts control."

In the other, presidential hopeful Joe Lieberman tosses his hat into the ring. The hat, of course, is a yarmulke.

Staff writers Abby Cohn and Joe Eskenazi and Editor-in-Chief Marc S. Klein teamed up to take second place in the Boris Smolar Award for Excellence in Comprehensive Coverage or Investigative Reporting.

The articles and editorials covered the financial woes and community outrage surrounding the merged Magnes Museum and its eventual dissolution into the Judah L. Magnes Museum in Berkeley and Jewish Museum San Francisco.
