BERLIN (JTA) -- A German Jewish leader admitted to drug charges against him and resigned his post as vice president of the country's Jewish community.
In a news conference Tuesday, Michel Friedman also asked forgiveness from the public, his colleagues and his girlfriend.
Friedman, who is also a TV talk-show host, is one of the best-known spokespersons for Germany's Jews. He will pay a fine of roughly $19,000, but will not serve any jail time.
Teenage girl struck in anti-Semitic attack
BERLIN (JTA) -- A teenaged girl wearing a Star of David necklace was attacked in Berlin.
Several other teenaged girls reportedly attacked the 14-year-old in a case initially reported to the police on June 27.
Several stops later, four girls described by witnesses as being of Turkish or Kurdish appearance also came on board. Two of them allegedly began to curse the 14-year-old, referring to her nationality and to her Jewishness, then hit and kicked her.
The girl suffered light injuries.
Hitler tourism booms at mountain retreat
BERLIN (JTA) -- Germany may expand a museum at Hitler's former mountain retreat because of overwhelming tourist interest.
The finance minister in Bavaria said he would seek additional funding to build an extension at the site in Berchtesgaden. As many as 1,500 tourists a day are visiting the site in southern Germany, officials said.
