The Knesset passed a law barring sexually explicit broadcasts on satellite and cable television, but the council decided that the Playboy channel was erotic, not pornographic.
According to the petition submitted by Attorney Smadar Ben-Natan on behalf of the feminists and social activists, the council’s decision is a blatant circumvention of the law barring pornography on television. She charged that the council voted on the matter after the membership of three women, all of whom had voted against the Playboy channel in November, expired. Six out of the 10 council members voted against the channel in November. This time, the vote was four to two in favor.
