Davis imparts support of Israel and depicts Calif. wanting peace

"I told the prime minister that, as long as I am governor, California will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel in its struggle for a secure peace," Davis said. "I share his outrage for the innocent lives taken at the hands of terrorists."

Davis also expressed outrage at the July 4 shooting at the El Al ticket counter at Los Angeles International Airport. Three people, including the gunman died in that shooting, and several others were injured.

"We continue to be vigilant in our effort to protect the citizens of the state, and law enforcement continues to be on full alert to guard against any acts of violence," Davis said. "My heart, as well as those of all Californians, ache for the victims of this shooting and their families."

After his conversation with Sharon, Davis joined President Bush in supporting a new and different Palestinian leadership.

"We can no longer have cease-fires where one side ceases and the other side fires. I would hope that the next Palestinian leader will focus on developing his own nation, instead of destroying another."
