One day a year, members of the Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California lobby their elected leaders in Sacramento on matters of concern to the Jewish community.

Ensuring that social service programs are taken care of usually tops the group's agenda.

Not this year.

Members of JPAC felt that, given the situation in the Middle East, these are extraordinary times. And so they decided that on this one day, May 8, when they had the ears of their elected officials, Israel had to be their No. 1 priority.

"Every time our lobbyist in Sacramento walks down the halls, the legislators want to know, what does the Jewish community think about what's going on in Israel, and what can we say" said Judy Bloom, vice chair of JPAC and a Hillsborough resident.
