NEW YORK (JTA) -- B'nai B'rith International is sending medicine to Argentina. The shipment, valued at more than $1 million, was a joint venture of B'nai B'rith with Brother's Brother Foundation, an international charity.

The two groups previously worked together to ship medical supplies to earthquake-ravaged Central American countries.

Hillel opens offices in Latin America

NEW YORK (JTA) -- The largest Jewish student organization in the world is stepping up its presence in Latin America. Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, which opened a center in Uruguay last year, plans to establish offices soon in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and in Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires.

The Latin American ventures are being funded in part with $1 million from the Baltimore-based Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, which also recently donated $1 million for social justice programming through campus Hillels.

Dennis Ross to head Near East think tank

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Dennis Ross will become director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy this spring.

Ross, the former Middle East peace envoy during the Clinton administration, has been serving as a counselor and distinguished fellow for the Middle East think tank since leaving government service.

He replaces Robert Satloff, who is moving to Morocco for two years.

Patrick Clawson, currently the institute's director of research, has been named deputy director.
