The work of art was underwritten by Rabbi Judy Shanks of Temple Isaiah, which will house the banner year-round -- except, of course, when it's being used at the women's seder.
Several years of use at the seder had caught up with the paper Miriam, who was beginning to wear a bit thin. Seder co-chair Cheryl Cohn mentioned the predicament to Shanks last year.
"When she said she'd cover the cost of making it, I was so, so excited," recalled Cohn.
The seder is sponsored by the Center for Jewish Living and Learning and the women's division of the Jewish Federation of the Greater East Bay, in conjunction with East Bay synagogues, sisterhoods, Jewish Community Centers and women's organizations.
As always, this year's seder will feature singing, dancing and the classic tale of emancipation from Egypt -- from a feminine perspective.
The fourth annual East Bay Women's Community Seder will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 17 at Centennial Hall in Hayward. Tickets are $54, and can be purchased at http://www.jfed.org/seder/htm or by calling (510) 839-2900 ex. 233.
