"Numerous classified documents obtained by Fox News indicate that even prior to Sept. 11, as many as 140 other Israelis had been detained or arrested in a secretive and sprawling investigation into suspected espionage by Israelis in the United States," Cameron continued.

Hours after the segment aired, spokesmen at Israeli consulates were attacking the report, which points out that Israel for years denied any linkage to convicted spy Jonathan Pollard, as false.

"The report on Fox News contains no quoted source, it has in no way demonstrated anything more than anonymous innuendo, and should be regarded accordingly. Israel does not spy on the United States of America," said Mark Regev, a spokesman at the embassy in Washington, who was also quoted by the series denying the allegations.

As for allegation that Israel did not share intelligence regarding the Sept. 11 attack with the Americans, Regev called the charge "totally unfounded and incorrect."
