WASHINGTON (JTA)-- An aide to Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) resigned after writing that pro-Israel members of the U.S. Congress have a "conflict of interest."
Raeed Tayeh, a legislative assistant in McKinney's office, said in the Nov. 28 edition of The Hill, a newspaper published on Capitol Hill, that he was disturbed that lawmakers "care more about Israel than human rights and American values."
He also said that President Bush took a "courageous step" in recognizing Arab rights to "stolen Palestinian land."
McKinney said the letter was "not an official statement from my congressional office or me" and that some comments "do not reflect my thoughts and positions."
