“Vulcan Junction,” filmed in 1999 in Israel, plots the course of love, ambition and disappointment of six Israeli friends nine days before the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

Four of the six perform in Genetic Code, a small-town rock band. The group gets its inspiration from the latest American and British tunes that are performed at Vulcan Junction, a bar run by an American expatriate. Familiar ’70s hits by Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and the Hollies pop up throughout the movie.

“Vulcan Junction” received the Haifa International Film Festival’s Best Film award.

The festival will continue through Nov. 11.
