El Al’s new flight schedule for fall 2001 offers up to three times as many nonstop flights to Israel each week. The weekly schedule to Israel from Sept. 2 through Oct. 27 is as follows:
From JFK, 13 flights (every day except Friday, when El Al never flies); from Newark, seven flights (Sunday through Thursday); from Los Angeles, five flights (Sunday through Thursday); from Miami, four flights (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday); from Chicago, three flights (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday evening).
Earlier this year, the airline formed a partnership with Delta Airlines for San Francisco passengers, who now can take Delta flights to JFK, then board El Al for Tel Aviv.
Before this agreement, Bay Area travelers had to get flights to Los Angeles, Chicago, Newark, New York or Miami on other airlines.
El Al, which has one of the youngest fleets in the industry, is the only airline operating the Boeing 747-400 aircraft between the United States and Israel, providing passengers with a shorter flying time. El Al also utilizes three new Boeing 777s on the United States-Israel route.
The 747-400s and 777s are equipped with the latest technology available in aviation. Every seat has a personal TV monitor and an electronic stereo headset. Every seat on the 777s is equipped with a personal telephone and a reading light attached to the seat. Passengers in all classes of service have access to a fax machine. Every first class and business class seat is equipped with a computer modem, allowing passengers to easily connect their laptops.
In addition to the regular glatt kosher menu, El Al travelers have a choice of 22 in-flight meals, including a children’s menu. All special meals must be ordered at least 24 hours in advance.
