Shoah museum exhibit takes stance on Sudan

by WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The Committee on Conscience of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum announced a genocide warning against Sudan, "The memory of the past is violated if we do not address the future," said committee chair Jerome Shestack.

One haunting photograph shows the emaciated corpses of young children side by side in the back of a truck that is about to dump them into a mass grave in Bahr el Ghazal, a southern province.

Experts estimate 2 million people have perished during the past 17 years in Sudan, and another 4.5 to 5 million have been uprooted in the struggle.
