Just last month Klein stepped down as president of the American Jewish Press Association, a position he held for more than six years, first in the late ’80s and again in the late ’90s.

The JTA board this week also elected Rabbi Brian Lurie to its board of directors, replacing Amy Friedkin, former president of the Jewish Federation of the Greater East Bay. Lurie, formerly head of United Jewish Appeal, resigned just last week as president of the Jewish Museum San Francisco.

Klein and Lurie are the only Bay Area representatives on JTA’s board.
