Israel facing a second year of drought

by JERUSALEM (JPS) -- A second consecutive winter drought, with all its dire ramifications for the farming industry, is looking inc, The forecast for December, January and February is grim.

The decision to cut allocations to farmers was approved last week by the Water Council, an advisory body, which rejected Treasury demands to raise the price of water for farming by 17 percent.

Agriculture Minister Haim Oron has stated that a price hike of this magnitude would spell the end of the farming sector.
