New U.S.-Israeli defense panel meets for first time

by JERUSALEM (JPS) -- A senior Pentagon official led a delegation to Israel for talks Thursday of last week designed to bolster bil, The U.S.-Israeli Defense Police Advisory Group held its first meeting in Tel Aviv, Israel's Defense Ministry said in a statement

The purpose of the group is to coordinate and plan cooperation between the U.S. Department of Defense and Israel's Defense Ministry.

The new forum will consolidate other forms of military consultations between the United States and Israel.

Last week's meeting was co-chaired by U.S. Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Walter Slocombe and Israeli Defense Ministry Director-General Ilan Biran.

The U.S. delegation was made up of senior civilian and policy officials from the office of the secretary of defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the U.S. European Command. The Israeli team consisted of senior Defense Ministry and Israel Defense Force officials.
