S.F. rabbi going to Slovakia

by Rabbi Malcolm M. Sparer, president emeritus of the Board of Rabbis of Northern California and vice president of the Orthodox Rab, He will be traveling to the area under the auspices of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee to officiate at High Hol

Sparer, a chaplain for the Veteran's Administration for the past 25 years, also will visit with Jewish members of the peace-keeping forces who are expected to attend his services.

"I will feel far more comfortable spending the holidays with those who have been so devastated during this past year, many now attempting to recapture their roots, than sitting in plush, upholstered synagogue pews, as I have done for so many High Holiday seasons," he said. "This is an opportunity to place the needs of the many before any personal comfort, and I welcome the opportunity to serve."
