Abdullah, Arafat meet in Gaza to ponder peace talks

by JERUSALEM (JPS) -- In his first visit to Palestinian-controlled areas, Jordan's King Abdullah met Wednesday with Palestinian Aut, The visit, announced by Arafat and Jordan's Petra news agency, comes just a week after Ehud Barak's election as prime minister.

As'ad Abdul Rahman, a Palestine Liberation Organization executive committee member, said from Amman on Tuesday that he expected Arafat and Abdullah to discuss an Egyptian idea for a summit including Egypt, Jordan, the Palestinians, Syria and Lebanon. They are also likely to discuss Israeli strictures on trade between Jordan and the Palestinian-held territories.
