Kathy Williams, who chairs the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation's 10-year-old VPP, says the agency has 240 possible "jobs" in its database requiring a wide array of skills. There are opportunities for shmoozing, clerical work, working with people and administrative-coordination, just to name a few.

"We're a one-stop shop," said Gail Green, VPP director. "People don't know what's out there. Instead of calling around to five or 10 places, they can meet with us and we can offer personalized service and direction."

Green and her staff (who are volunteers themselves) will meet with individuals in San Francisco and Palo Alto. They can accommodate almost any schedule, including weeknights and weekends.
