JFI Winterfest brings weekend of top Jewish films, talks to S.F.

Tickets are on sale for the Jewish Film Institute’s WinterFest, which takes place March 4-5 in San Francisco at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema New Mission and the Roxie Theatre.

The program includes nine 2016 films new to the San Francisco-based JFI, as well as guests and panel discussions. Film settings range from World War II Poland to New York, and from Hollywood to the back halls of Washington, D.C.

On March 4 at the Alamo Drafthouse, the lineup includes Richard Gere in “Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer” and Jessica Chastain in “The Zookeeper’s Wife,” based on the best-selling nonfiction book.

The following day, at the Roxie, the program includes screenings of the documentary “All Governments Lie: Truth, Deception and the Spirit of I.F. Stone,” followed by a panel discussion with journalists on the current state of investigative reporting, and the musical documentary “Bang! The Bert Berns Story,” on the life and career of the songwriter and record producer.

A complete list of films and related programming is available at winterfest.jfi.org.
