Rabbi Dennis Eisner of Peninsula Temple Beth El in San Mateo was one of 12 U.S. rabbis who traveled to Israel this week representing the Central Conference of American Rabbis.
Eisner was the only rabbi from Northern California on the July 27-31 trip.
“This is about our families, our friends, our people,” Eisner said before leaving. “It is time to stand with Israel, and not just in words. It is my obligation to go to Israel to let her know we stand as one.”
He also said it was “imperative that I go and bring back a firsthand assessment to better educate and inform our community of the situation.”
The schedule included meetings with Knesset members, government officials and local leaders to discuss issues related to the conflict with Gaza, along with visits to Reform communities near Israel’s border with Gaza.
