Philanthropist and community leader Douglas Goldman will be honored at the “Behind the Scenes” gala in San Francisco on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
The annual Jewish Com-munity Relations Council event showcases members of the community who work to promote a just society and secure a Jewish future. Goldman will receive the organization’s Jewish-Civic Leadership Award.
“Doug Goldman is a passionate, strategic and effective activist whose commitment to fighting injustice includes ensuring that Israel is given a fair hearing on campus,” said Rabbi Doug Kahn, executive director of the S.F.-based JCRC.
Goldman, a retired physician who heads a philanthropic fund with his wife, Lisa, has worked to protect voter rights and support social justice, Jewish learning, health and environmental education, among other issues.
“JCRC is very pleased to be honoring him for his lifetime commitment to justice and promoting a strong civic society and vibrant Jewish community,” Kahn said.
The event also will honor City Attorney Dennis Herrera and Chief Deputy Attorney Therese Stewart, both of whom work to promote civil rights and marriage equality, including leading the city’s legal challenge against California Proposition 8. They will receive the JCRC’s Courageous Leadership Award.
The event begins at 6 p.m. at the JCC of San Francisco, 3200 California St. Tickets start at $125. For information, visit www.jcrc.org/behindthescenes2014.htm.
