The JCC of San Francisco and Reboot are teaming up to present an evening of food and family — and the stories that link them.
“Beyond Bubbie’s Kitchen” on April 1 will be emceed by celebrity chef Joey Altman. He will be joined by prominent Bay Area chefs Traci Des Jardins of Jardiniere, Craig Stoll of Delfina, Peter Levitt of Saul’s Deli and others.
Some food writers, including J. columnist Alix Wall and Tablehopper blogger Marcia Gagliardi, will join them in spinning family tales from the kitchen. In addition, the chefs will provide samples and distribute the recipes that go with them.
Audience members can participate, too, but their one-minute story and recipe must be chosen as worthy. Well-structured stories should be submitted by March 1 to firstname.lastname@example.org; according to organizers, an accompanying photo of the applicant’s grandparents, especially in the kitchen, will improve the chances of being chosen.
“Beyond Bubbie’s Kitchen” is related to the Reboot website BeyondBubbie.com, an interactive community cookbook and place to share stories and memories related to recipes. “Beyond Bubbie” events have been held for several years in locations around the country, plus one in London.
The April 1 event will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30, with a discount for JCCSF members. For information, visit www.tinyurl.com/beyond-bubbie or call (415) 292-1233.
