S.F.-based Jewish Family and Children’s Services will host its 13th annual Émigré Community Gala, a fundraiser that also honors local émigrés from the Former Soviet Union.
The event, which includes dinner, dancing, live entertainment and a silent auction, is scheduled for Feb. 1 at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco.
Former Secretary of State George Shultz will be on hand to receive the Distinguished Humanitarian Freedom Award from JFCS.
The entertainment will include dancing to the music of Bremen’s Band from New York City, and ballroom dancing performances by two dancers who are regulars on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”: Ukraine-born Val Chmerkovskiy, 27, and New Zealand–born Peta Murgatroyd, 27.
As part of the fundraising aspect of the event, raffle tickets will be sold, with prizes including Lake Tahoe and Napa vacations, spa sessions and wine tastings. Proceeds from the gala benefit JFCS programs that assist needy Jewish communities here and in Israel. For tickets and other information, call (415) 449-1256 or visit www.jfcs.org.
