A day to remember, a day to celebrate
In Israel, one of the most festive days of the year comes right after one of the most solemn. Monday, April 15 is Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day, which honors those killed by war or terror. It is followed the next day by Yom HaAtzmaut, which celebrates the birth of the Jewish state. Both days, which begin at sunset the evening before, highlight the sacrifices paid for Israel’s independence, and both will be observed by groups around the Bay Area. A Yom HaAtzmaut party in the Mission will feature Israeli band The Peatot and Hebrew roots band Sol Tevél. See calendar listings for more events.
