The Addison-Penzak JCC of Silicon Valley announced this month it will begin offering free, yearlong memberships to any b’nai mitzvah in the South Bay. The JCC board voted at its August meeting to extend the offering in “celebration of these emerging adults within our community,” according to a statement.
“The Jewish community is a family. And when a family member is celebrating a joyous occasion, we should do all we can to support and encourage them,” said Rabbi James Greene, director of the Center for Jewish Life and Learning at the JCC, in the statement.
“B’nai mitzvah is a significant moment in the life of a child. I am proud that the JCC is right there to celebrate with them, and to wish them a mazal tov,” he said. The memberships are being offered in partnership with area synagogues.
“Many people who are now engaged in the Jewish community remember their experiences at a JCC,” said Judy Levin, chair of the board. “It is an important indicator of lifelong Jewish development. We hope that this gift will support a new generation of Jewish adults.”
The JCC is located at 14855 Oka Road in Los Gatos. For more information, call (408) 357-7492.
