Comic relief

The elections are so close the candidates can almost taste victory. The hopefuls are debating, the pundits are pontificating, and the super PACs are spending. A little comic relief is needed, and that’s just what the Osher Marin JCC will supply with its “Evening of ‘Mostly’ Political Comedy.” Johnny Steele, who has worked for Live 105 and KRON TV, will host the show, and self-proclaimed “liberal Jew” Scott Blakeman (pictured) will perform, along with fellow comics Michael Davis, Keith Lowell Jensen, Alex Koll and Mike Drucker.

8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at Osher Marin JCC, 200 N. San Pedro Road, San Rafael. $24.50-$39.50. www.marinjcc.org

“Let Us Find the Words.” Dramatized reading of letters between poets Paul Celan and Ingeborg Bachmann. At Contemporary Jewish Museum, 736 Mission St., S.F. 6:30 p.m. Included with admission. www.thecjm.org.

“Laugh Out Loud.” Playwright and actor Charlie Varon performs short monologues about elderly Jews living in a retirement community. At Peninsula JCC, 800 Foster City Blvd., Foster City. 2 p.m. $4. www.pjcc.org.
