Timed for the start of the Jewish new year, East Bay Tikkun Olam Chessed Day on Sunday, Oct. 14 will offer people a chance to “ride the wave” of introspection and thought by volunteering and engaging in acts of loving-kindness (chessed).
The event is sponsored by the JCC of the East Bay and a host of East Bay synagogues. Online registration has been extended until Sunday, Sept. 30, with spots in many different time slots still available.
Volunteers can choose to sort food at the Alameda County Community Food Bank, prepare and serve a meal at the Berkeley Women’s Shelter, decorate bags for the Jewish Family and Children’s Services of the East Bay’s weekly Shabbat meal delivery, or beautify Redwood Regional Park in the Oakland hills.
