Yizhar Hess, the leader of the Masorti movement in Israel, will be in the Bay Area to deliver several lectures and attend synagogue Shabbatons.
Masorti is the Israel-based arm of the Conservative movement. Hess will speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31 at Congregation Beth Sholom in San Francisco and at 6:30 p.m. April 1 at Berkeley’s Congregation Netivot Shalom on the topic of Israeli Jewish pluralism.
On April 2, he will attend Shabbat morning services at Congregation Kol Shofar in Tiburon, then will speak on “Authentic Zionism as a Masorti Mandate.” At 1:15 p.m. that day he returns to Netivot Shalom to participate in a discussion titled “Masorti and Israel — A Perspective on American Jewry-Israel Relations,” led by Bay Area visiting Masorti scholar Rabbi Avi Novis-Deutsch.
