Soviet oral history project begins in Los Altos Hills
Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills has begun an Oral History Project to help preserve Jewish traditions among emigres from the former Soviet Union, where government policy made it difficult for them to learn about their culture.
For the project, emigres have volunteered to have their stories recorded on videotape. Originals will be kept in Beth Am's libraries for students to learn about the history of East European and Russian Jews. Families will also keep copies.
Eleven videos have been completed, but the project needs video equipment and volunteers to translate the texts of the videos into English. For information, call the synagogue at (415) 493-4661.
